About Us

We simplify overseas sourcing and manufacturing so you can focus on growing your business. Whether you’re scaling an existing product or launching something new, East West Basics provides end-to-end support—from product development and factory sourcing to production management, quality control, and delivery.

Our U.S.-based team works alongside 50+ specialists across Asia, giving you direct, on-the-ground oversight throughout production. We build long-term partnerships with both clients and factories, which is why many of our clients have been with us for decades.

Our Story

Founded by Robert Sperling in 1998, East West Basics is rooted in a family manufacturing legacy in Asia dating back to 1965.

After becoming one of the first Western buyers invited into China in 1979, the Sperling family built a sourcing model rooted in long-term factory relationships, hands-on quality oversight, and the ability to navigate an ever-changing global supply chain.

Mission

To help brands bring exceptional products to market through reliable production, unparalleled quality, and full ownership at every stage.

Vision

Be the partner our clients trust completely — delivering quality, consistency, and peace of mind from first sample to final shipment.

Our Leadership Team

We operate as an extension of your team. Our U.S. team works alongside you on product strategy, design and development, while our embedded teams across Asia manage factory sourcing, production oversight, and quality control. Backed by a combined total of 60 years of factory relationships and hands-on manufacturing experience, we manage every step of the production lifecycle from design and factory selection through production and shipment coordination — protecting your margin, timeline, and brand reputation — every step of the way.

Robert Sperling

Robert Sperling

CEO & Co-Founder

Robert co-founded East West Basics in 1998 carrying a philosophy he’d spent years building: the deepest advantage in global manufacturing isn’t price or speed — it’s trust and integrity. His family’s roots in Asia sourcing run back to the 1960s, and Robert grew up watching what long-term factory relationships actually look like. He built EWB to operate the same way — with the patience to earn real partnerships and the discipline to protect them. Three decades in, that approach still defines how EWB works.

Jason Yu

Jason Yu

Co-Founder

Jason co-founded East West Basics alongside Robert Sperling in 1998, bringing factory relationships and operational depth built across decades in Asian manufacturing. Like Robert, Jason’s connection to Asian manufacturing runs deep — his family’s roots in the industry stretch back generations, beginning in Taiwan before expanding into China. His network of production partnerships across China and Southeast Asia formed the foundation of EWB’s sourcing infrastructure and continues to anchor the company’s manufacturing capabilities today.

John Ardington

John Ardington

Senior Partner

Over more than two decades at EWB, John has built some of the company’s most significant and longest-running client relationships. As a senior partner, he brings decades of institutional knowledge to every program he oversees — spanning multiple product categories, major retail formats, and deep factory partnerships across Asia.

Zach Sperling

Zach Sperling

Executive Director

Zach grew up in global sourcing and carries its legacy forward with a modern focus on risk management, quality, and growth. As Executive Director, he works directly with brands to build sourcing programs that scale — bridging U.S. product strategy with the Asia operations team that executes it, identifying potential problems on both sides and solving them before they have a chance to compound.

Jenna Sperling

Jenna Sperling

Head of Product

Jenna owns the part of the process where most production failures begin: the gap between an approved sample and reliable mass production. As Head of Product, she builds the tight specs, pre-production risk assessments, and QC protocols that ensure what a client approves is exactly what arrives, repeatedly, at volume, and as timelines tighten.

Marcy McKenna

Frequently Asked Questions

We manufacture across five countries in Asia: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, and Bangladesh. Our Shenzhen office serves as the operational hub for factory coordination, with on-the-ground teams embedded in each market. Our U.S.-based team works directly with our clients on product strategy, development, and program management.

You won’t need to. Our Asia offices are staffed with multilingual managers who coordinate directly with local factories in their local language. Your point of contact is always someone on our team — you communicate with us, and our Asia team translates that into action on the factory floor.

East West Basics manages all factory relationships on your behalf — overseeing communication, quality, and timelines every step of the way. You work directly with our team while benefiting from our trusted factory network and on-the-ground expertise. Your designs, specifications, and intellectual property always remain fully yours.

In the rare instance a production error on our watch makes it past our QC process, we make it right at our own expense. That means a credit, replacement production, or whatever the situation calls for. No excuses, no finger-pointing, no exceptions. We have gone as far as air-freighting replacement containers to meet a client’s deadline. It’s who we are and how we operate.
