Lori Greiner:
Delivering the Impossible

The Overview

Lori Greiner is a celebrated inventor, entrepreneur, and television personality best known for her long-standing partnership with QVC and her prolific work on the hit series, Shark Tank.

The Objective

Lori had a clear vision for her next QVC product: a Deluxe Jewelry Box. More intricate and refined than anything she had brought to market before, the product needed to be manufactured with a level of precision that matched her reputation. She was looking for a sourcing partner who could bring that vision to life, protect her pricing structure, and deliver on time and on budget without compromising quality.

The Challenge

With QVC already on board with the concept, Lori partnered with a trading company who sourced a factory, developed a prototype, and agreed on pricing. As production was about to get underway, serious problems emerged. The product proved far more complex to manufacture than the factory had anticipated, and unable to honor the price it had originally committed to, the factory demanded a significant increase. Lori refused, the relationship broke down, and the production process was halted. With only 60 days remaining until her contracted ship date with QVC and no product to show for it, Lori was in a bind. Luckily, a mutual acquaintance connected Lori with East West Basics.

10,000 units. 60 days. Zero compromises.

When Lori’s original supplier fell through, East West Basics stepped in.They delivered in full and on time, without renegotiating price or cutting corners on execution.

The Gap

Under normal circumstances, a project like this runs four to five months: two to three weeks to find and vet a factory, another three to sample a product of this complexity, and two to three months for full production of 10,000 units. East West Basics had two months.

Compounding the timeline pressure were the manufacturing demands of the product itself. The Deluxe Jewelry Box featured precisely stitched interior compartments, refined drawers, and specialized hooks and hangers. All required paint finishes that had to match perfectly across interior and exterior surfaces, each of which reacted differently to the finishing process. This level of craftsmanship requires tight process control, disciplined factory oversight, and on-the-ground supervision at every stage of production.

Insights

East West Basics was built for exactly this kind of challenge. Nearly three decades of systems, processes, and a team with deep institutional knowledge made the difference.

With more than 50 full-time team members on the ground in Asia, many of whom have been with the company for over 20 years, East West Basics has cultivated factory relationships that go far deeper than what any platform or directory can offer. In this case, East West Basics already had an established working relationship with a factory well-equipped to handle the material and construction demands of the Deluxe Jewelry Box. The search process did not take weeks. It took hours.

This is the gap that catches most brands off guard. Sourcing independently through platforms like Alibaba can feel cost effective, until something goes wrong. Without established relationships, brands have zero leverage, limited visibility into what is happening on the factory floor, and no clear accountability when quality slips or costs rise unexpectedly.

Impact

Once brought in, East West Basics moved with precision. Leveraging their existing factory relationships, they bypassed the weeks typically spent on vetting and moved directly to sample production. The sample was produced, shipped to the U.S., received and approved in eight days.

With approval secured, East West Basics moved directly into mass production, overseeing every step of the technical process: cutting, sanding, painting, extended drying cycles, precision interior assembly, and precision lining. All 10,000 units were produced and shipped within the remaining window, and the 60-day deadline was met.

Sold out on QVC in 2 days.

The Deluxe Jewelry Box flew off the virtual shelves, validating both Lori’s vision and East West Basics’ ability to deliver a production-ready product under extraordinary pressure.

Conclusion

That initial order of 10,000 units marked the beginning of a partnership that spanned more than 20 years. Over that time, East West Basics became Lori’s supplier of an expanding range of products including cosmetic kits, travel jewelry boxes, armoires, mirrors, gift boxes, and more. In many cases, East West Basics originated the product concepts that Lori went on to sell successfully through QVC.

From a single order of 10,000 units to a 20-year partnership.

What started as an emergency became a long-term collaboration with East West Basics spanning dozens of products over two decades.
